Dental Crowns

Dental crowns are tooth-shaped prosthetics that restore a tooth following treatment for decay, erosive or abrasive wear, gum or periodontal disease, or trauma. With traditional crowns, the restoration is fitted over the remaining portion of the healthy tooth. If the original tooth cannot be saved, a dental crown can be placed using a dental implant. Dr. Starr provides custom crowns designed to look natural, fit comfortably, and achieve a balanced bite.

"Dr. Starr is a consummate craftsman -- and artist. A number of my teeth had become abraded (abfraction, in dentists' lingo), and their alignment was far from perfect. To my mind, this cast a shadow every time I spoke or smiled. Dr. Starr replaced some of my front teeth with crowns, and adjusted their orientation to subtly improve the contours of my mouth. The effect is beautiful, natural -- and I'm no longer self-conscious when I smile! Getting this work done was the best investment I ever made." - Lorena G. Beauchesne

Inlays and Onlays

Inlays and onlays are porcelain restorations that replace tooth structure lost due to tooth decay, attrition, or trauma. If a filling cannot adequately restore a tooth, but an entire dental crown would be excessive, an inlay or onlay may be the best solution. Dr. Starr's inlays and onlays are custom-crafted for each patient in his onsite lab, with careful consideration of bite patterns, and the shape and shade of the tooth. Probably the most important reason for fabrication of an inlay or onlay instead of a full crown is that the inlay / onlay allows Dr. Starr to preserve remaining tooth structure thereby increasing the longevity of one's teeth.  The procedure is less invasive.

TMJ Therapy

TMJ (temporomandibular joint) disorder symptoms include jaw pain, tooth grinding, and headaches. The joints connecting the jaw and skull can become strained when overcompensating for an imbalanced bite. Over time, this strain can cause a variety of symptoms patients may not associate with their jaws. To ensure an accurate diagnosis of TMJ disorder, Dr. Starr uses innovative radiographic analyses along with a detailed occlusal clinical exam. We offer effective treatments to restore balance in the bite and relieve TMJ pain symptoms. These treatments often start  with the construction of an oral appliance which is carefully adjusted to the patient's bite.  It acts as a "deconditioning" appliance to allow the tension in the facial muscles and ligaments to dissipate, thereby promoting muscle relaxation and healing .
