Why Do You Need a Full Mouth Reconstruction?A full mouth reconstruction is a procedure that is designed to restore and rebuild the teeth in your upper or lower jaw (or both jaws). It is a customizable procedure that often involves a combination of restorative dentistry, orthodontics, periodontics, endodontics and oral surgery. Getting Your Exam Before receiving treatment, a comprehensive oral exam is required. During this exam, we check all areas of your mouth to determine the best treatment(s) for your specific needs. Along with a complete visual exam, we will also take x-ray images, impressions, and pictures. We will look at several different components of your mouth, including:

The condition of your teeth. We inspect your teeth for signs of decay, fractures, chips, tooth wear, and other damage. This allows us to determine the best restorative options for your mouth.

The condition of your gums. We check your gums for signs of gum disease (and its extent), looking for issues such as redness, swelling, gum recession, periodontal pocket depth, and even excess gum tissue. This helps us to determine any necessary periodontal treatments.

The condition of your jaw. We look at your jawbone to assess its strength and stability.

The condition of your bite. We will check the alignment of your teeth and your jaw. If the alignment is off, this can cause significant jaw and temporomandibular joint pain, as well as excessive and uneven wear on your teeth. Problems with alignment can affect other necessary treatments, so these issues are often addressed first. |
After the condition of your mouth has been assessed, we can then move forward and develop an appropriate treatment plan. Often, this requires us to work with other specialists (interdisciplinary dentistry). We will outline all of your necessary treatments and determine the order in which they need to occur.
